Operation Outbreak Deploys Simulation at Dreamforce Global Health Forum

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA — Operation Outbreak ran an interactive outbreak simulation for global health leaders at the Global Health Forum in San Francisco last week, ahead of Salesforce’s annual Dreamforce conference.

The invitation-only event brought together approximately 80 leaders from government, nonprofits, global health, and technology. Operation Outbreak Co-Founder and CEO Dr. Pardis Sabeti and AI Lead Arya Rao were invited to speak about Sentinel, an initiative to strengthen early outbreak detection and response in Africa.

They were joined by Operation Outbreak Strategy and Business Development Manager Sol Bloomfield, Epidemiology Lead Ivan Specht, and Administrative Coordinator Frank Liu.

During the first half of the forum, attendees participated in an Operation Outbreak simulation modeling a measles outbreak spreading throughout the room. Following the simulation, the team shared the resulting epidemiological data, allowing participants to see how the outbreak had unfolded across the event.

The exercise provided a natural introduction to Sentinel and its work to improve visibility into emerging outbreaks.

The Global Health Forum highlighted the complementary work of Operation Outbreak and Sentinel, while bringing Operation Outbreak’s simulation-based approach to a broader community of global health and technology leaders.
